Jul 9, 2020 So I'm originally from England, but I live and work in New York, which means I've had to adjust from the Queen's English to American English.

As your English becomes more advanced, however, it becomes more important to decide which form of English you prefer. Forms of abbreviation are entirely different in both types of English. In American English, Mister, Misses, and Street are abbreviated Mr., Mrs., and St. with a period which comes after the abbreviation. But in British English, there is no period which comes after the abbreviations. It is easy to identify the difference between the two through this. American English is the form of English used in the United States. It includes all English dialects used within the United States of America.
